As someone born and bred in "Auld Ayr" and with a grandfather who could recite the whole of "Tam 'o' Shanter" from memory, I grew up with a deep affinity for Robert Burns. More recently I discovered that an old family story that we were related to"Souter Johnny", Tam's ancient, trusty drouthy cronie, is actually true. So in this year of the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns birth, I wanted to produce a quaich to specially to celebrate the work of Scotlands Bard.
The quaichs are 100mm across the bowl and turned from a single piece of Scottish Oak, inlayed with sterling silver. On the underside of the foot I have inset an un circulated 2009 Robert Burns two pound coin. The coin is decorated with an extract from "Auld Lang Syne".
I like to think that both Burns and my grandfather would have approved, after all they both were fond of the odd dram or two.......
