ODE TO A QUAICH

A quaich is a cup with two ears
It’s not for drinking fine beers
It’s made out of wood
Where the oak tree once stood
Chopped down after hundreds of years

A quaich if something very special
It’s not an ordinary drinking vessel
It’s awarded to people on special occasions
To hopefully establish good social relations.

It’s sometimes known as a loving cup
Only the privileged are allowed to sup
Often presented to winners of races
And others in society in very high places.

So if you are lucky to win one of these
Remember the skillful craftsman please,
Look after it, treasure it, it’s yours for life.
It was made by a man who knows his stuff
He makes these quaichs from wood that was rough.

Now here is something new, I don’t want to haggle
Do you know that a collection of quaichs is a quaggle?
